Stephen Strasburg's 14 strikeouts set a new team record. Although the record for most strikeouts in a major league game is 21 (also set by a Washington player), and the record for most strikeouts in a nine-inning major league game is 20, Strasburg did become the first pitcher in history to score 14 strikeouts with no walks in his major league debut. Only five other pitchers since 1900 have scored 14 strikeouts with no walks in seven innings of any game in their careers.
